I'm going nuts---the new patterns are coming into the Colette patterns shop, and they are just lovely.

I adore this coat. I'm just drooling. I just finished my first-from-a-pattern coat, that involved learning some new tecniques, now I'm ready to tackle more projects. I have a really fancy sort of coat pattern that I will make, I just wanted to warm up with a simpler one first... more on that later...

I love these gloves too... pretty, pretty, pretty...

I'm an obsessive compulsive crafter. I craft everywhere. Anytime. I kind-of wish that I could craft in my sleep. These are a few (I've listed sooo many things: so you'll just have to go to the shoppe to see the rest ;D) of my "craft" projects of this week...
I made 8 of the large dyed fabric roses, this one is so tasty.
I went to Omaha yesterday (we go to Whole Foods: place of frolicsomeness, We're plotting Thanksgiving feasting, as the rest of Omaha seemed to be judging by the crowd). After all of the grocery store adventures, I, with a wallet that has been on a diet, went to Michaels. That was such a dreadful idea, so many tasty toys, so little time and $$ (I'm making myself save most of what I have---for now). I was practically drooling. I made myself a list, and a promise to return with wads of $ so that I can get some crafty person toys. :):):):):):):):):)

Another of my favorites, I like blue.

I've been going crazy trying to keep up with my ideas for my shop this week (I'll take the creative spasms as they come ;)), I took my notebook to the book store, and wrote down 3 pages of things that I wanted to create. It will be a busy week, so wish me luck tapping into that list.

This one would look so charming on a hat... maybe I should shop around in my own stuff :):):)

I am making a gold themed Christmas tree this year and will be making my ornaments this week (scrambling to get them done by Thanksgiving :)) and intend to use liberal amounts of glitter and cuteness.

I've been wanting to do some floral envelopes for the shoppe for a while now, I just did 3 colors, I think that I will do more in the future.

On Friday I started work on a new dress: it's based off of a vintage dress that I layed flat and traced. It's a pinkish floral type of cotton. If the weather cooperates I'll post pics when I'm done.

Vintage flocked buds, so cute. I hearted this item shortly before it sold out (not to me though). Waaaah. Well, I've made hundreds if not thousands of flowers. I'm always coming up with more ideas. These were a brainstorm. I have the most violent urge to make fuzzy florals.

So I got to thinking: how is it possible to make this fuzziness come to life? I've been drooling over these ever since I saw them. I hit etsy first, they didn't have this set. On to Ebay, I found a bunch of these sets. I thought about getting the large bottle of white flock (the bottles are charming) and tinting as neccessary, this would be cheaper than getting the whole set. However, in the end, I cracked and bought the whole set (twenty $ vs. seven). So hold on-flocked vintage repro flowers are on their way to the shoppe.

I have been reading blogs for some time now.
It's interesting reading about other bloggers heritage and quirks.
So far I've avoided posting much of anything personal about myself.
Today, in honor of my blog-switching, I thought I would post something along those lines.
Hopefully this won't be too boring... hahahahah...

I hadn't been over to Modcloth for a while, so today I went over and had a peep at the coats.

Now I'm practically drooling all over myself, they have so many lovely coats.

I love this one: the collar is gorgeous, perfect for pairing with hats.

I love the scallop details. The color is cool too.

Beautious Coat

I adore this coat.
It's perfectly lovely and ladylike.
And it looks like a cappuccino.
So tasty.
It has been unusually cold this fall.
This past Saturday we had our first snow and it seems to be pelting freezing cold rain right now.
I've been envying other bloggers around the U.S. talking about their hot weather.
I'm such a wimp when it comes to coldness.
Although, a little bit is acceptable, because then I can wear big warm hats and pretty coats like this one.
I didn't snag this particular gem (waaaaahhh). I think by the time I spotted it someone else had dibs.

I have recently acquired a stack of lovely floral vintage bedsheets, and have been trying to decide on the perfect projects to make with them. SO, I took a little detour over to the Sohomode site to have a good browse.
I have this sheet. I guess I didn't realize it was vintage. I've been using it as a sheet. I saw this one in the sold items section of the shop and clicked on it (thinking that it was very cute), and behold, a sheet I recognize. Looking at this dress leads me to believe that I need to launder this sheet and re-envision its life as a dress.

I love these vintage fabrics.

Her designs make me happy. They also make me have a ferocious itch to sew something.

My infatuation with this company began when I saw a sample of one of their garments at a local quilt shop. I thought it was one of the coolest garments I had seen in a long time
(and lamented that it wasn't in adult sizes too).
Last night I was puttering around on the computer, reading blogs, when I noticed some of the clothes that they had been sewing up, and that they were Oliver+S patterns. So, I took a detour to the companies website (http://www.oliverands.com) and then to their blog (http://www.oliverands.com/blog)
Bad Idea!!
I was on the computer soo late last night (am hours, not pm) drooling over these designs. I think that I'm easily seduced by pretty colors and patterns.
Lovely garments for a very cute little girl. I love the way they incorporate special details into the designs. It may not be something loud, but it contributes to the overall (boutique-ish) appearance of the garments.

My latest completed sewing projects

O.K., I've finally gotten these pics uploaded.
I've been sewing a lot lately. I've already dulled my sewing machine needle (I only had one from when I purchased my sewing machine, the other needles I have are for the Singer machines). So I bought some of those on Ebay today, hopefully they will come quickly so that I can get back to sewing.
I have quite a few projects that I'm working on, so I'll try to keep up with getting them posted.
I love this fabric. It's very vintage. It's cotton. I really like to use natural materials when possible.

This dress was my first project on my new machine. I'm really happy with the way it turned out.

I've gotten in the habit of hand-basting the seams before machine sewing, and it makes a huge difference in the precision of the fit. I did a hat last night without basting the seams first, and it was a decided reminder as to why I baste first, sew second.

This is the first time that I've sewn a newsboy cap. This pattern would be perfect to use for a beret as well as newsies. I made this using a pattern from Eugenia Kim's "Saturday Night Hat".

I made this hat from an upcycled wool Liz Claiborne skirt. I really like the fabric. It's lined with black satiny fabric. The pattern called for cardboard to stiffen the bill. However I opted to go for something a little more washable: plastic canvas. It works quite well for this application.

The little wool button was from a trade with the lovely Julie Collings.

This is my second shirtdress that I've made. This fabric reminded me of the special dishes that my Grandma used to use for Thanksgiving dinner. It's probably the color scheme.

I'm really pleased with the way this turned out too. I like the white collar and cuffs.

Both of my dresses have princess seams, and the hemlines fall a little below the knee.

I love this dress. I like the checked/gingham fabric that it is made from, and I love the matching belt. I would like to make some dresses with the matching belt. The fabric covered buckle kits are so hard to find, I'm going to have to do some web prowling to find some.

It's a computerized Husqvarna Viking Embroidery/sewing machine (an Iris) and I'm hoping that this machine will be the prize that I've been waiting for...

I love these suits. I love 1950's fashions. I'm trying to figure out how to wear clothes from the 50's without being dated or obvious. I guess I'll just have to give it a try.

Yes! I'm on a mad pattern buying spree! I loved this dress pattern. I've admired the retro butterick patterns for a while now. I'm a total sucker for cute 1950's fashions. I just love them.

This dress has only 3 pattern pieces and is supposed to be very simple to construct. Yay. :) I'll make lots in that case. :D

I've been scoping out ebay for some good blouse patterns. This one seemed to jump out at me.
So I bought it. :):):) Cheap thrills. :D I'll have to sew like crazy after all of this pattern and notions shopping. I have been watching some other patterns on Ebay too. I'll have to decide how badly I want them.

Check out "E", that's so victorian/edwardian made modern. I think I'd wear one just for the fun of it. I'm always on the hunt for classic patterns. One of my concepts is: Could the past 2 and future 2 generations wear this on the street and not look strange? These have a leetle bit of trendiness, however I think I can tweak out some very nice shirts.

Gack! Someone tell me to get off of ebay! I was fiddling around looking at stuff when I spotted this pattern. It's a vintage vogue reprint of a dress/bolero set from 1954. Drool. I was just going to post it for picture purposes, but in the end broke down and bought it like the compulsive shopper that I am at heart. This dress is gorgeous, and the cool illustrations are my waterloo. I love them. I like the full skirts and 1950's fashions drive me crazy. I want them to come back! Also, this pattern looks easy to make. Yay. I am used to multi-sized patterns, so I had to really check the sizes carefully to make sure that I got the right one. I'll have to make lots of dresses now. :) Hard fate. Vintage here I come.

Remember the coat pattern that I bought the other day? I had bought it because I loved it/it's cool+vintagy, only upon it arrival to realize that I didn't have enough material (I can't get anymore of the material either/ I bought it in another locale in a close-out sale). Sooo, the remedy is to hit ebay again and get a pattern that is shorter/requires less fabric. Hence I bought this one today. I really like it, and the lines are so classic, this one will be made over and over.

I just bought this pattern on ebay. I've been on the hunt for a good dressy/long coat pattern, and I really kind-of liked this one. I was initially hunting for one with princess seams (my favorite). I cannot tell if this pattern has the princess seams, however it seems fitted enough for my tastes. I'm a bit of a sucker for the 'vintage' theme. Sooo... I'll give it a try and see how I like it. :)

I should be saving my $$. I love vintage buttons. I've been designing out some new clothes and have been working on getting all of the right buttons and fasteners for everything.

I love these. I really, really love the cloth covered buttons in this set. They are in excellent condition too. Ready to be made into something cool.

I just bought these.

I've gotten blacks and browns today. Which is good. They'll match well with a lot of different fabrics. I'm in an argument with myself when to start making fall/winter clothing (july and august are ironically the best times). I have enough fabric to make 5 or 6 very nice coats, and some of the buttons that I bought today will probably be set aside for those projects.

I spotted this shop on the etsy front page, and started 'geeking' out in a very seamstress-y way.
Ack. I bought a few buttons.
The hand-made revoltingly c-u-t-e bias tape was so appealing, but I went with the buttons...
For now...
I'm a sucker for buttons. And cute packaging.

And I also fall pretty easily for little polka dots.

Good enough to eat. :)

This kit is so cute. I've been using that word to excess, however I simply cannot help that. :D
